What’s Included in Your Postnatal Check?

Initial Consultation and Health History

Ellie will discuss your birth experience, medical history, and any symptoms or concerns you may have, such as pelvic pain, incontinence, or back discomfort. This conversation helps tailor the assessment to your specific needs.
Postural Assessment
Many women experience changes in posture duringand after pregnancy. Ellie will assess your posture to identify any imbalances, tension, or misalignment that may be contributing to discomfort.
Pelvic Floor Muscle Examination
A key focus of the Postnatal Check is the health of your pelvic floor. With your consent, Ellie may perform an internal or external pelvic floor assessment to evaluate muscle tone, strength, and coordination, identifying any signs of weakness, prolapse, or tension.
Abdominal Muscle Check (Diastasis Recti Assessment)
‍Pregnancy can cause separation of the abdominal muscles (diastasis recti). Ellie will assess the width and depth of any abdominal gap to determine if corrective exercises or other treatments are needed.
Breathing and Core Activation Assessment
‍Effective breathing techniques and core engagement are essential for postnatal recovery. Ellie will check how well you’re able to engage your core and use your breath to support pelvic floor function, which is important for stability and strength.
Functional Movement Screening
‍This part involves assessing movements that are part of everyday life, such as bending, lifting, and squatting. Ellie will observe how you perform these movements to identify any compensatory patterns or weaknesses.
Personalised
plan for Empowerment
Ellie creates a personalised treatment plan based on your assessment, focusing on easing discomfort, rebuilding strength, and restoring confidence.

Whether it’s pelvic pain, diastasis recti, or general aches, her expert care ensures a smoother, stronger recovery into motherhood.

 Success Stories:

How Postnatal Recovery Transforms Norfolk Mums' Lives

Hear from some of our mum clients who have had the Postnatal Check with Ellie’s physiotherapy services.

"I first contacted Ellie at the start of my second pregnancy having experienced some pelvic girdle pain.
Since then Ellie has helped me identify the cause of the pain, helped ease my discomfort with effective massage and management techniques and given me exercises to reduce it.
We have big plans for my postpartum period to get me fighting fit to avoid any such issues in the future.
She has been an absolute godsend and has given me confidence in my body and I wouldn’t want anyone else treating me and my baby during this time. If you’re thinking of a Mummy MOT I couldn’t recommend Ellie highly enough."

Ria

Dereham

"Very good. Very thorough. In addition to Mummy MOT, Ellies NHS background and expertise in muskular-skeletal was really useful in helping to address my post-partum aches and pains. Highly recommend."

Georgie

Norwich

"I've been going to Ellie since beginning of this year. After feeling not quite right since giving birth, I decided to try a Mummy MOT. Ellie did a through assessment of my current situation and gave me exercises to do at home. She gives great advice on how to do the exercises correctly and takes time to answer all my questions. I feel very supported by Ellie and would recommend her to anybody else feeling pelvic floor weakness even years postpartum."
